North Announces Leadership Transition For The Next Phase Of Growth

Tuggerah, November 2024

North Construction & Building Pty Ltd (North) is pleased to announce a key leadership transition, marking the start of an exciting new chapter in the company’s growth. Effective January 2025, Matthew Cook will transition from his current role as Managing Director to Executive Chairman. John Melvin, who has been with the company since 2009 and a Director since 2019, will transition into the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

This leadership transition follows a 38-year history of employee ownership and a strong commitment to building excellence. Earlier this year, North expanded its employee ownership to 22, with 7 additional shareholders, further reinforcing the company’s legacy of shared success.

John Melvin’s journey with North began over fifteen years ago, and his passion for the construction industry and strive for excellence have been key drivers behind the company’s continued success.

“Joining North was a pivotal moment in my career, a place where I felt my personal values were very closely aligned,” said John.

“I’m proud to work with the North team over my time here and I look forward to continuing our journey of delivering great buildings, with the great leaders we have within our business and helping shape that journey in my new role.”

With 33 years of experience in the construction industry, John has played an integral role in North’s growth and success. He has delivered solid results across multiple sectors, including commercial, residential, industrial, health, hospitality, heritage, and education, in both Australia and the UK. As Director since 2019, John has helped lead North through a period of expansion and continued success.

John’s appointment to CEO signals the next phase in North’s strategic growth, with a focus on building on the company’s strong foundation of stakeholder trust and employee ownership. Working closely with Matthew Cook, who will continue to provide leadership and strategic direction as Executive Chairman, John is poised to guide North into a new era of excellence and opportunity.

The leadership changes come as North strengthens its commitment to providing innovative, high-quality solutions to its clients while ensuring that its employees and sub-contractor partners continue to benefit from the company’s ongoing success.
