Museum Park Heritage Redevelopment

The Museum Park Precinct and Civic Station Heritage Refurbishment project comprised the expansion of the existing Museum Lawn area to incorporate the existing Civic station area, former rail corridor and station forecourt area. The new public open space will form a key open space area within the Civic area of Newcastle. It will also provide a link between these uses and the harbour foreshore with its entertainment, residential and commercial uses.

This site is approximately 7,000sqm in area and is bounded by the Newcastle Museum in the north and Hunter Street in the south, the project entailed the following key items: Refurbishment/Heritage restoration of Civic Station into a lettable tenancy, the heritage deconstruction of the existing overhead foot bridge, with the reuse of haunch beams and bricks into hard landscaping elements; the enhancement of Civic lane and the Station forecourt; and, hard and soft landscaping works to Museum Place and Brake Block Park.
