North Construction & Building were involved in the development of the World Class HNE simulation-based training and education centre which encompasses a diverse range of activities for a wide range of medical students.
The HNE Centre specialises in fully immersive simulation-based team training for practising healthcare professionals, trainee doctors and nurses to practise their skills on computer-controlled mannequins that replicate routine procedures and human reactions.
The Centre has a complex fully integrated Audio Visual (AV) system, critical for the efficient running of the Centre which has the ability to remotely see, hear, play back and record activities and sounds taking place in the simulation rooms (Operating Theatre & Resuscitation Bay), via live AV feed to the two debriefing rooms. Cameras are able to pan, tilt or zoom remotely during simulation using the latest technology touch pads.
The work included demolition and removal of the existing services, Internal alterations to the existing building structure and associated services for the provision of the new office, debriefing rooms, breakout, operating theatre, store/prep, resuscitation, control, static store, entry/corridor, reception, beverage bay, scrub sink, stores.
Major challenges during the construction was working adjacent to a fully functional and occupied hospital. Cross contamination was always a highlighted potential risk due to the vicinity of the hospital laundry bay.
Safety and cleanliness were paramount in ensuring that this project was delivered to the client on time and on budget whilst achieving a superior level of quality.
North built a strong relationship with the client through close communication with the engineering department of the hospital, and consequently alternate methods of construction were agreed and used to reduce the critical timeframe and to minimise disruption to the ongoing requirements of the hospital.
