University of Newcastle – Bike Storage Hubs

Client: University of Newcastle

VAlue: $1,000,000

Architect: EJE Architecture

Project Details

North was engaged to design and construct 2 secure bike storage hubs. The first of their kind at the University of Newcastle, the hubs provide end of trip facilities including showers and toilets, change rooms, storage lockers and specialised bike storage racks for students and staff. Both buildings were equipped with swipe card access control and CCTV camera monitoring, as well as WiFi provisions which enhance the range and effectiveness of the overall campus WIFI capabilities. The challenges of working in and around staff and students, maintain access and car parking and ensuring that the Uni was able to maintain full operation by keeping disruptions to a minimum, were overcome through constant consultation and communication between North and all relevant University Facilities. North were able to deliver the project within the required time frames, despite the inclusion of a significant number of additional items requested by the client, with the hubs operational in time for the new University Semester.
