Visit the North Construction Apprentice Virtual Booth where you can find out more about applying and working with North, why working with North is a great choice and can set you up for a long term successful career in the dynamic world of construction.
By providing valuable skills and hands on experience for students, we are very active in promoting V.E.T., the construction industry and the varied career options available to the participants of a work placement. We recognise the value of developing new and existing employees through an apprentice, trainee or cadet program.
After being awarded the Australian Employer of the Year at the 2018 Australian Training Awards and more recently ranking #17 best places to work by Great Place to Work Australia, North joined the national community dedicated to sharing their VET journey with Australians to encourage greater participation in VET. Many of our past Apprentice of the year winners willingly give their time to give back to the community and speak to students.
Additionally, North has worked closely with REIP Officers in the Central Coast, Newcastle and Dubbo regions promoting the many opportunities that exist in our industry due to the current skills shortage and the significant number of jobs required to meet the current demand of projects. Focusing on pathways and employability skills we have participated in many presentations to students and in some cases parents which we consider instrumental in changing the mindset of what a career in construction can look like for their sons and daughters. Several sessions have also been dedicated to promoting women in construction, with less than 3% of women currently working in construction trades and accounting for 51% of the population we are committed to increasing female participation in our industry. Throughout COVID 19 Construction chats with students have continued with sessions carried out using Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
We are excited about the CSR opportunities that could eventuate further and hopefully even more broadly with the NSW Government. By outlining some of our experiences previously, it is clear our approach is far more than simply words.
We see our initiatives particularly having impact around the areas of:
Inclusive education and workplaces
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment
Support of economically disadvantaged people
Regional growth and employment
Drug and alcohol rehabilitation
Mental health and wellbeing
Work Experience and Work Placements
