This Ourimbah power substation project involved the refurbishment of an existing oil containment bund at the Ourimbah substation. Transformers used throughout the electricity network are typically filled with oil to cool the transformer as required. If there is a leak, the oil is captured in the concrete bund and diverted to an oil seperator system where it is separated from any stormwater that has mixed with the oil. The project required specialist contractors with the correct training and credentials to enter a live substation, and to work in close proximity to live electrical equipment.
