The project provides 144 new beds over two levels with areas catering specifically from low care to high care dementia specific accommodation.

As part of the tender North offered an alternative ground floor slab design delivering the client a significant saving up front.

The construction itself was fairly straight forward with a reinforced ground floor slab, load bearing masonry suspended first floor slab and brick veneer first floor. North also brought forward the mens shed on the programme and converted it to a bedroom prototype, this provided the benefits of allowing the key stakeholders the chance to stand in a completed bedroom and ensuite and make minor adjustments at an early stage and also ironed out any details or concerns whilst setting a benchmark for quality, all ahead of the fitout in the main building.

The result is a project that was delivered on budget and 8 weeks ahead of programme, with the standard of finish that Opal refers to as “setting a new benchmark for quality in all the new facilities”.

Rutherford Glen, a $21m 144-bed RACF was completed by North following a competitive tendering process. North introduced several value engineering solutions to deal with difficult ground conditions and completed the project under a Design & Construct contract.

The project was a success and set a new benchmark for completion and quality across our company. We were pleased to also have our project recognised with a Newcastle Master Builders Association Award at the same event where North was named Commercial Builder of the Year.
