When tenders were called for the construction of a new worship centre, community facility and car parking for the Terrigal Uniting Church, the church had a maximum budget of $1.3m. As preferred tenderer with a bid in excess of $1.7m, Norths were invited to submit proposals for cost savings. Without significantly changing the function of the building, the tender sum was reduced to $1.31m allowing the project to proceed.
Some of the cost saving options that were made to the project included driven timber piles in lieu of bored piers, Ultrafloor precast concrete flooring system in lieu of conventional formwork, pre fabricated frames and trusses in lieu of structural steel to the community wing, re-design of the external car parking layout, and re-design of the stormwater management system.
