The Tingira Heights project for Housing NSW involved the design development and construction of 12 self contained units within three separate buildings, a car park and landscaping. The project was heavily opposed by local residents, so managing public relations was extremely critical throughout the construction period.
The units consisted of six 2 bedroom units, five single bedroom units and a one bedroom accessible unit, with the design needing to meet stringent requirements from the Department of Housing Guidelines and Specification.
The site was reasonably complex with the buildings stepped down the block. Access between the buildings was very limited and construction took place on a natural overland waterway with a steep gradient and cross fall through the site. Poor ground conditions meant extensive groundwork and foundation systems needed to be designed and constructed, to support the buildings and retaining structures. During construction asbestos was discovered on site and decontamination was required.
